Lucy, a dynamic member of our team, is gearing up for an impressive feat as she prepares to embark on a 52-mile cycling journey from London to Brighton on June 16th. Despite limited prior experience in cycling, Lucy is embracing this daunting challenge with determination and a spirit of adventure, all in support of a noble cause.
In an email shared with the team, Lucy humorously acknowledged her journey from novice to seasoned cyclist, admitting, “Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you will have heard me banging on about a little ride I’ll be doing in a few weeks…” Despite her initial reservations, Lucy has committed herself to rigorous training, even investing in a new hybrid bike to aid her preparations.
Her training regimen, which includes weekly spin classes, circuits, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT), has already yielded impressive results. Lucy proudly reported completing a 40-mile ride, surprising even herself with her progress. However, she humorously lamented the need to resist the allure of biscuits to avoid carrying any unnecessary weight on the ride.
Lucy’s motivation for taking on this challenge extends beyond personal fitness goals. She revealed that the ride holds special significance as she will be cycling in memory of her father, whom she tragically lost in June 2014. With Father’s Day coinciding with the ride, Lucy sees it as a poignant opportunity to honor her father’s memory and support the British Heart Foundation, a cause close to her heart.
Despite the physical and emotional challenges ahead, Lucy remains resolute in her determination to make her father proud and raise funds for a worthy cause. She expressed gratitude to those who have already shown their support and extended an invitation for others to join her journey, whether through donations or simply offering encouragement around the office.
For those interested in contributing to Lucy’s fundraising efforts, the donation link is provided here: Lucy’s Big Ride for the British Heart Foundation. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in supporting vital research and initiatives.
As Lucy aptly expressed in her email, “I don’t want anyone to feel under pressure to donate, your support around the office will be equally appreciated 😊.” Let’s rally behind Lucy as she embarks on this incredible journey, cheering her on every pedal of the way.
